Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, led the launch of the 2023-2024 school cycle of more than 660,000 students in basic education to whom she delivered more than 4.2 million free school textbooks. These are the instruments to create better professional citizens, while forming human beings with comprehensive development, while also having direct contact with children, parents, teachers, the administrative staff, and the school community at large.

From "Mariana Otero" Primary School located in southern Mexicali, the state governor presented a live report to the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during his morning press conference. She thanked the support by the government of Mexico of the state's education and reiterated her commitment with the distribution of the free school textbooks created by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP).

"These school textbooks will help us to create better professionals, but above all, better citizens and better human being}, better complete human beings without prejudices, without discrimination, without classism, human beings that build together with their community, their neighbors, their friends, their parents, and their siblings. They will build their dreams," she said.

Accompanied by the Subsecretary of Higher Education of SEP, Luciano Concheiro Bórquez, the governor also highlighted the delivery of more than 300,000 hot breakfasts in schools daily as part of the "Pancita Llena, Corazón Contento" program, one of the most important programs by the state administration as it is an essential aid for families.

On the other hand, and alongside the Secretary of Education of Baja California, Gerardo Arturo Solís Benavides, she said that more than 800 million pesos have been invested in the last year in education infrastructure, and these actions will be continued so as to have restored schools where children and teenagers can have better spaces to study and learn. In addition, more than 300,000 students in Baja California are receiving a scholarship or school aid.

She highlighted that, for the first time in this country's history, the teacher's union created the free school textbooks, demonstrating their commitment with the New Mexican School, its values, its principles, and the formation of better humans that will build the future of Mexico with this knowledge. In addition, she thanked parents for instilling in their children the motivation to learn and to make progress to achieve their dreams.

She underscored that more than 124 million pesos have been invested in programs that include scholarships and several types of economic and goods aid, to guarantee that vulnerable students stay in school and perform well. In addition, there are also programs such as Educando con el Corazón, which includes 306 schools with an extended school day in order to promote a better academic development.

In addition, in 2023, projects that support science and research have been benefited with more than 72.8 million pesos. The goal of this is to strengthen the connectivity project of Baja California as well as research center labs and state universities. As such, the educational offering has been expanded to provide a development based on proficiencies, with programs focused in strengthening specific practical content.

"You will be able to build an entire work perspective while having fun. You will be able to include games in your own education, you will include elements that you like so that you can educate yourself. Today, education in Mexico will be completely different. Previous models were not working anymore. They were models where they just wanted people to memorize things and today we need a critical spirit, a chance to work," Subsecretary Luciano Concheiro Bórquez added.
